A few weeks ago, in both of my postings 'Ambassadors of Christ', I reminded everyone that even though we are not of the world, we still lived in the world. We cannot ignore what is happening around us, as this has a direct effect on us and our loved ones. That is why the Bible urges us to seek the good of the city, the nation or the country where the Lord has led us and pray for it; because we’ll have our peace and welfare in its own peace and welfare (Jer 29:7). Therefore, it is better to take our responsibility and be proactive. There are several ways to do this: for example we can get involved in community projects, go into politics or embark on humanitarian causes etc. There are many such opportunities, if you are really sincere in your motivation or willingness to bless others.
We can also remember that we are the salt of the earth; and the primary use of salt is not to give a better taste to food, but to stop corruption. Before the advent of freezers - and this remains the practice in some parts of the world - salting was the best way to preserve food; that is to say, to prevent putrefaction –corruption. The best way to play this role as a Christian is by telling the truth and serving as as examples to the world. People no longer have landmarks; the border between right and wrong is increasingly blurred; but the Church of the Living God knows exactly where this is and can / should prevent its complete disappearance: she is the pillar and buttress of the truth (1Ti 3:15).
Isa 8:18-22, “Behold, I and the children whom the LORD has given me are signs and portents in Israel from the LORD of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion. And when they say to you, "Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter," should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living? To the teaching and to the testimony! If they will not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn. They will pass through the land, greatly distressed and hungry. And when they are hungry, they will be enraged and will speak contemptuously against their king and their God, and turn their faces upward. And they will look to the earth, but behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish…”
When the Church is silent, the people wander, are hungry, sin and sit in darkness and distress. My pastor likes saying that “the Church is the problem of the World.” We have a huge responsibility and if I raise this subject today, it is because of some political conversations that I recently had with relatives.
A few days before the French elections, I was chatting with someone who wished the defeat of Nicolas Sarkozy and the victory of Francois Hollande. I told her that if I were to vote, I would put a void ballot in the French and American elections. She was a bit puzzled; so, I went on to explain that a Christian could not even consider (let alone vote for) the victory of someone who is in favour of gay marriage and adoption etc. It was therefore dangerous to want Sarkozy to be beaten by anyone, be it the devil.
Thus, in 2008, I knew Obama would win; but I was far from seeing in him the messiah, and I did not want a black in the White House at all costs. I was disappointed when McCain took Sarah Palin as running mate; I wished he had chosen a black Republican lady of the stature of Condoleezza Rice for instance. The majority of blacks, including Christians, didn’t mind or didn’t pay attention to the fact that he had been a longtime member of a liberal church (>20 years) and had only officially cut ties with them because his pastor and mentor set off a terrible controversy over the sensitive issue of the 09/11/11 terrorist attacks. It is good to know that this church, which had deeply influenced his thinking (the United Church of Christ), was the first 'Protestant' denomination in the United States to ordain a gay pastor in 1973; and they also invite their members to mobilize themselves in favour of same-sex couples’ marriage. People refused to care; they just needed a black guy at the White House. Just as some people in France, blacks and Arabs in particular, only wanted Sarkozy (associated with anti-immigration policies) to give way to Hollande.
Now, the chicken has come home to roost. In the US, France and around the world, Christians, who insisted on having a black as President of the US and who did not ask what God thought of that election, are flabbergasted: also speaking on behalf of his wife, Obama has announced they are personally in favour of gay marriage! So what? What’s strange? This is what they have learned and believed for more than 20 years! It is not a mere evolution of their opinion: he simply chose the right moment to put his church's teachings into practice. Besides, in the same vein, the brand new French Prime Minister has also announced that his government will work towards the legalization of homosexual marriage and child adoption by gay couples, according to the roadmap and promises made by his boss, President Francois Hollande.
Tomorrow, our children or grandchildren will grow up in countries where the notions of marriage, family and gender would have been totally redefined. In case you were not aware, Argentina has just passed a law where no expert advice is now needed in order to choose a gender, contrary to the practice of the past. In simple terms it means that Mr John just needs to go to the council and explain that he has always felt he is a woman and wants to be addressed as Miss or Mrs. Joan henceforth, and it will be done immediately in order to avoid any further psychological damage. He doesn’t even need to start his physical transformation for that; this can now be done later: he simply needs to explain that he believes he is a woman trapped in a man’s body… More than two years ago, discussions had already started in France to teach in schools that genders are not limited to two, male and female; but transsexuals are also included. If it is not yet done in some schools, it will definitely be from next September.
God does not ask us not to ride the same wave as everybody (pure anti-sarkozism), or ride the wave of emotions (let’s have a black brother in the White House); He wants us to surf on His Wave. When they say to you, "Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter," should not a people inquire of their God?
God will judge the nations (Matthew 24); and in so doing, He will also judge those who have helped them, by their votes, go astray instead of making disciples out of them as Christ asked (Mat 28:19).
When we directly or indirectly support such a person, we give them a ‘blank check’ and lose the spiritual authority to pray against their bad decisions. That is why it is better to do your civic duty and vote ‘void’. It's a way of taking heaven as a witness that we have no part in what is going to happen; and this gives us the right to request that the pestilence that flies by day or night should not approach our tent. The Church needs to know who she is; know her authority and fulfill her role. Let’s take a stand for truth and for God: let’s be militant!
If you’ve liked the article, make it widely available: the U.S. elections have not yet taken place...
God bless you!
